My Everyday Language (“we”, “us”) runs myeverydaylanguage.com. This page explains what information we collect, who processes it on our behalf, and what you can do about it. We have kept it in plain English on purpose — a policy nobody can read protects nobody.
Information you give us
The newsletter. When you subscribe we collect your email address, and your first name and language preference if you choose to share them. This is stored with our email provider, and used only to send the lessons and guides you signed up for. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
Messages. If you email us we keep the message so we can reply. We do not add you to any mailing list because you wrote to us.
Purchases. If we sell you a digital product, payment is handled entirely by a third-party payment processor. We never see or store your card details. We keep the order record and the delivery email address so we can support what you bought.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, ours records some information as you browse:
- Analytics. Which pages are read, from which country, on which kind of device. This is aggregated and does not identify you.
- Advertising. We work with an advertising partner and its approved vendors, who may set cookies and use advertising identifiers to choose which ads you see and to measure whether they worked.
- Security and performance. Standard server and network logs, including your IP address, kept briefly for security and troubleshooting.
You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings and the site will keep working — you will simply see less relevant advertising.
Advertising
This site is free, and advertising is how it stays free. Our advertising partner and its vendors may use cookies and advertising identifiers — which can include a coded version of an email address you have given to some other site — to show you more relevant ads.
We do not control what each vendor collects, and we do not get your personal information back from them. What we receive is aggregate reporting.
You can opt out of interest-based advertising across many companies at once through the Digital Advertising Alliance. Opting out does not remove advertising; it makes it less targeted.
What we never do
- We never sell, rent or trade your email address.
- We never add you to a mailing list you did not ask for.
- We never share your message to us with anyone outside the people who answer it.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it — email [email protected] and we will do it. You never have to give a reason.
If you are in the EU or UK. You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your data, and to object to processing. Our legal basis is your consent for the newsletter and for advertising cookies, and legitimate interest for security logs and basic analytics. You may also complain to your national data protection authority.
If you are in California. The CCPA and CPRA give you the right to know what is collected, to have it deleted, to correct it, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell personal information in the ordinary sense of the word, but the way advertising identifiers work may count as “sharing” under California law. To opt out, email [email protected] with the subject Do Not Sell or Share, or switch on Global Privacy Control in your browser, which we honour automatically. We will never treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.
How long we keep things
Newsletter subscribers stay on the list until they unsubscribe or ask to be removed, after which the record is deleted. Emails you send us are kept for two years. Analytics data follows the provider’s own retention, typically no more than about a year. Server logs are kept for a matter of weeks.
Children
This site is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13 (or under 16 in parts of the EU). If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we add a service that handles your data, we update this page before it goes live, and we change the date at the top. We do not quietly rewrite history — if something material changes for existing subscribers, we say so in the newsletter.
